By-Golly I’ve Found My Niche!

Published March 26, 2014 by jurneyjurray

I guess the same is just as true the other way around, my niche found me!

Regardless, I am fulfilled and grateful to have made it to this point after three years in business. Almost a year ago I began working on pieces that unbeknown to me overtime had manifested into a cohesive collection. These pieces I am referencing are accessories embodied by formal and elegant occasions.

I had a shining moment two weeks ago, as I showcased at Chic Occasions Bridal Show, where this collection of pieces debuted on the runway with bridal and bridal party apparel. This was a beautiful moment to adorn the models, who were all so elegant in their wedding dresses and matron of honor dresses. I met so many radiant brides-to-be, and having a moment to share in their joy was a wonderful feeling. My Ribbon Corsage bracelets were very well received as many brides and their families have custom ordered their Ribbon Corsage bracelets to  adorn their bridal party to compliment their wedding colors.

In light of this great moment, I’d like to share a few pictures from my elegant occasions photo shoot from this past weekend. I am very proud of this shoot, as my daughter, Donyae, did the honors of modeling. Image ImageImage

The neat part about working with my daughter is she’s very supportive, whether that be offering her opinion or shooting images, modeling and overall being such a trooper. She has a formal dance approaching, which I am looking forward to creating her custom Ribbon Corsage bracelet, pearl collarette necklace and earrings.

Within the next few days I will do a search in Atlanta for three future brides to photograph a bridal photo shoot, as each bride will receive pictures, jewelry, hair and makeup. I can’t wait to share this moment with you!

In addition to my daughter, Donyae, I would also like to thank photographer Ty Spencer of TS Photo Designs who took the amazing pictures you have viewed. He can be contacted at (404) 944-6518 or email tsphotodesigns@gmail.com for bookings.

Many thanks,

The Balancing Act of Yin and Yang

Published January 22, 2014 by jurneyjurray

2014 has started out with a bang! I have been presented with a host of opportunities that I am very excited about. The ultimate goal is to achieve balance.

Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (instead of opposing) forces interacting to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the parts.

Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (instead of opposing) forces interacting to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the parts.

I recently took on a marketing position within the global consumer industry, which is an amazing opportunity providing in-depth insight into the consumer world. Meanwhile I am in the midst of creating my spring collection of jewelry, handbags and women’s apparel. Seemingly the two ventures collide, but with balance they will sustain one another.

This year will be filled with challenges yet many accomplishments. Thus far I have been invited to showcase my winter women’s apparel collection at the NFL FPA Atlanta Chapter fashion show February 2, as well as, The Makayla Jefferson Foundation charity fashion show February 15 in Atlanta. I will introduce my full spring collection of jewelry, handbags and women’s apparel April 12 in Jacksonville, FL at Ginaki Inc. Dreams & Fantasies Fashion Show.  Celebrity designer Lizz Russell has again invited me to showcase my spring collection of handmade jewelry in May at her runway fashion venue in San Diego. Additionally I have been invited to showcase my designs on the runway of Latin Fashion Week in Washington D.C. in November.  Thankfully, I have also been asked to have my pieces featured in Fashion Couture Magazine.

And if that’s not enough on my plate, I am planning to begin introducing pieces of my jewelry and handbag collection to the retail trade markets. Throughout this whirlwind balance will be crucial, so I look forward to creating a fabulous team and sharing my experiences every step of the way!

Wish me luck!

Collarette Necklace DIY

Published December 15, 2013 by jurneyjurray

Inspired by my latest sewing project, I had the urge to make a new piece of jewelry. In the midst of designing my mixed print peplum jacket using color blocking techniques, I took a pause and began thinking about how to accessorize the peplum jacket and pencil skirt. The fabric colors and prints are crisp, bold yet vibrantly balanced, so I wanted to create a complimentary piece to visually enhance the look.

Using two rows of 16 inch golden cable chain, I began by finding the center point of each set of chain. I then beaded  a golden eye pin with a 6mm pearl, which then entered the center point of the top chain and was again beaded with a 4x6mm rondel crystal then an 8mm pearl and placed through the mid-point link of the bottom chain and finally a 6x8mm crystal was added to the eye pin then closed by a loop (created using needle nose pliers). next I beaded another eye pin with a 10mm pearl, which after creating a loop I connected to the bottom loop of the 6x8mm rondel crystal.

In order to create the rounded effect of the collarette style necklace, before adding the next beaded eye pin I counted five chain links to the right and continued beading into the top chain. After entering the top chain and beading the 4x6mm rondel crystal and 8mm pearl, I counted over six links and placed the eye pin through the bottom chain and finally beaded the 6x8mm rondel crystal and closing with a loop. I work right to left of the center point because it helps me keep count and track of the center, as I intentionally use an odd number of beadwork. For instance, you may want your center point to have a large teardrop crystal for a more romantic effect!

Please feel free to connect with me with any questions!

Jurney Jurray Designer Unveils New Fashion Line

Published December 9, 2013 by jurneyjurray

ATLANTA, December 7, 2013— As Jurney Jurray, LLC the boutique of handcrafted jewelry and accessories continues to look forward to a fabulous year in fashion, designer Jenée Dionne has expanded the company’s brand adding women’s apparel to the collection. The designer collection of jewelry, handbags, and women’s apparel were unveiled on the runway of the Sweet Dreams Couture Fashion Show at Colony Square Mall in Atlanta.

The recently added women’s apparel collection consists of a classy mix of dresses including an evening gown, peplum and Grecian one shoulder. An array of skirts, pencil, maxi and circle also appeared on the runway. Bolero vests, cropped jackets, as well as, high-waisted pants and shorts, all uniquely infused with jewelry were well received. Designer satchel handbags accompanied many of the models that were adorned in handmade jewelry.  The designer’s runway segment can be viewed on YouTube  at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjJ7aodDpxI.

The purpose behind Sweet Dreams Couture is iDream’s goal to make a positive difference not only in the immediate community but also in the international community as well. 100 percent of donations will provide a breakfast and lunch program to students at Scotts Hall Primary School and St. Alban’s Primary, which are both located in two of the most impoverished communities in Jamaica. As iDream challenges students in Atlanta to become global citizens, they are exposed to the poor conditions that other children around the world face and ways in which a difference can be made in their lives.

“I am grateful for iDream’s Valene Lindsay, as her charitable organization opens doors for so many, including myself. This past summer I was given the opportunity to teach the young ladies of Dream Power artistic and written expression, as doing something bigger than yourself is remarkably rewarding,” said Jenée Dionne owner of Jurney Jurray, LLC. “Having the opportunity to showcase the complete collection for an amazing cause is simply a dream come true.”

About Jurney Jurray, LLC“Established in 2011, the boutique of handcrafted jewelry and accessories, Jurney Jurray LLC has been taking fashionable strides by combining urban swank and contemporary elegance in the unique collection of jewelry, handbags and women’s apparel. Fashion Addictz Fall Fashion Show

Published November 26, 2013 by jurneyjurray

This past Saturday (11/23/13) we were fortunate enough to have participated in the Fashion Addictz 2013 Fall Fashion Show at the TD Convention Center in Greenville, SC. Presented by Jameka Elaine and hosted by Moshua Loriel of Atlanta the vibrant show was full of fierceness, which I was grateful to be a part of. Jurney Jurray handmade jewelry, handbags and new women’s apparel graced the runway in style with classic and elegant pieces all with a bit of edge.

At the start of every event I am always nervous and excited. The 2.5 hour drive from Atlanta to Greenville, SC was nice and scenic with all of the warm fall colors in bloom. With my mom and children in tote, we arrived early while the models were running through the runway walk, which gave my daughter and I a chance to set up. As models came in for hair and makeup we grabbed them and did a quick fitting.

Next was the “Red Carpet!”

Then it was show time!

I was amazed and overwhelmed with joy! Unfortunately I was not able to showcase the 9 pieces I had planned for the runway due to timing as an outfit change from one designer to the next can get tricky, but that’s to be expected during the hustle and bustle of a fashion show. I am however very thankful and full of gratitude to the models who so perfectly gave my designs life.

Also I’d like to thank my family for being there with me and especially my daughter, Donyae, for assisting me and walking the runway in my time of need. Additionally I’d like to congratulate and thank Jameka Elaine again for putting on such an amazing show, Asia Palmer for being an awesome MUA to work with, the beautiful host Moshua Loriel who is such a doll with a bubbly personality and Keatley Jael Bland  for rocking out everyone’s hair, as well as, the designers and beautiful models who brought all of our designs to life!

Respectfully,

Accentuating the Neckline

Published September 12, 2013 by jurneyjurray

The female neckline is regarded as a very sensual attribute. The beauty of it is we all have one! Here’s a few ways to accentuate your neckline depending on your style of clothing.

The v-neck collar is meant to expose a selected area. To accessorize the v-neck collar try a pendant necklace centered on the collarbone or a medium length layered necklace or an extravagant choker to fully accentuate the neckline.

A standup collar is best accessorized with a choker, collarette or a long necklace.

A blazer can be accessorized in one of two ways when looking to accentuate the neckline, so I suggest either trying long pendant or a short cluster necklace.

An off the shoulder blouse of dress is best enhanced with a layered necklace.

A square neckline collar should always have a nice short necklace that simply rounds out the collarbone, thereby accentuating the neckline.

A sweetheart neckline collar, line the v-neck should be worn with a pendant necklace that is centered in the crux of the collar.

My personal favorite necklaces I use to accentuate the neckline include chokers, collarettes and en escavage necklaces. Here’s a few samples of my handmade pieces!

Chic Business Casual

Published September 2, 2013 by jurneyjurray

I’ve had this thought, for some time now, to get my next project out of me. Last night, well I guess 4a.m. this morning actually marks its completion, but bygolly it’s done. Inspiration for this simple business casual dress was drawn from episodes of the 2012 series Damages. I was completely drawn to the ensembles worn by actress Rose Byrne’s character Ellen Parsons. That’s when I brought out my sketchpad.

Image
As you can see from my erase marks, there were several changes:)

From conception to completion I am overjoyed with my first apparel sewing project. I’m a very visual person, so just as I freehand-style the jewelry and handbags I make, I also did so with the dress. Naturally, because I wasn’t working with a pattern scaling was a bit difficult, but I managed. I was nervous about adding a side zipper because I’ve never done so before and I’ve seen many pieces take on a different form after installing a zipper…Yikes!

ImageImageImageImage

I used nearly a yard of off-white linen slub fabric, which was pretty easy to work with, plus it sews beautifully. Beside I like using uncommon fabrics to create new pieces, just as I create handbags out of upholstery fabrics. Outside of my fear of “the zipper” I did have one big OOPS, as I initially sewed one of the arms shut. Let me tell you, without a seam ripper that was almost a nightmare. All and all it was worth pulling an all nighter to complete. The dress didn’t turn out exactly as I had planned, but I guess it turned out exactly how it was suppose to be!

Final Product: My 13-year-old daughter/assistant modeling my accessorized chic business casual dress, jewelry and handbag.
